Go With the Flow

They call bunk beds "deckers" (I'd assume like a double decker) and take away food is "packing".  Also when you dress nicely they say you are smart (or you look smart?)

We learned that Sundays most things seem to be closed... oops.

Also, restaurant menus are not exactly set.  Some don't even bother having menus and you have to ask what they have that day, but those that have menus often don't have half the stuff on it.  It's one of those things you just have to expect and be pleasantly surprised if they actually have what you want to order.  It seems that way with a lot of things.  Being here really teaches you to just go with the flow.  Like the fact that we had 3 new girls coming but their room is not at all set up yet... lets hope it is by the time they get here tonight.

Yesterday (Sunday) morning we also got woken up extra early for breakfast (half an hour earlier than usual).  We weren't sure if it was to make up for being so late the day before, but especially on the weekend it wasn't really ideal.  Anyway it was another pretty relaxing day.  We realized that our first assignments were due today and had to scurry to try to get them done.  It was pretty tough, but now that I've started organizing my photos and thinking of good photo essays it should be easier from now on since I have more of a direction.  Other than on Friday night and Saturday I'll just always have my camera on me from now on.

Oh funny thing, while Chanel and I were out wandering yesterday, I saw this little thing that looked like a piece of dirt being blown across the road, but then realized it was moving too perfectly and discovered that it was a teeny little mouse.  We both agreed that it was surprising to think of a mouse as adorable but oh my goodness, it was like the size of my thumb (including its tail!).

I think the locals were laughing at us for being so amazed by a mouse, but I'm not ashamed.

Oh, I was asked about the doctors living with us.  So it turns out that we're the only permanent residents of Casa Del Turista, and a bunch of Peace Corps volunteers and Doctors Without Borders doctors come and go, though it sounds like a lot of them come back here often.  It's fun meeting the other people who come here and learning about what they're doing out here.

That's about it for yesterday I think.  This morning we had samosas for breakfast which is kind of a strange breakfast and we handed in our first works.  I also responded to the letters I got from the girls at the school so hopefully I can figure out which goes to who....

It's going to be a bit strange today since it's just Chanel, Rebecca, and me working with the new ladies since Marjani and Jack headed off to pick up the new fellows.

Alright off to work soon! We're hoping to walk both to and from Namatala today instead of just back since we've heard girls tend to gain weight out here from eating so many potatoes.
